In the First Grade, we learn to read by using a variety of methods.  One of the strategies that we use is learning high frequency words by sight.  Each week, you will be getting a Friday letter along with a list of the high frequency words that your child is to study.  The sight words will correlate with the story that we are currently reading.   Your child will be tested over these words the following Thursday.  It is important that you help your child study these words, not just for the test, but for memory. Memorization of the weekly High Frequency words will help build your child's fluency and will help your child become an independent reader!
